Language, Culture, and Translation
Abstract
Translation aims to help unskilled target readers to understand idea of others directly from source language. It is intended to bridge SL (source language) text writer and TL (target language) readers. The task of translator is to convey messages, either in the form of ideas, feelings, or thoughts, contained in the SL text to the TL readers. However, the problem is that translation activities do not merely deal with language issues, but also with cultural issues. Differences of language and culture of SL and TL often become obstacles in translation. It is not easy to bring SL and TL equivalents to the language level and, especially, to the cultural level. The correspondence in translation is not only related to form and meaning, but also the intention.
